"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
- Helen Keller
Dear delegates and MUN directors,
We live in an extraordinary moment of possibility. Humanity possesses the tools, the knowledge, and the networks to address its greatest challenges at scale: from the climate crisis to global health, from economic inequality to the rapid pace of technological change.
What has always stood between us and progress is not capability, but collective will. That is precisely why this year's theme resonates so deeply: Shared Responsibility, Collective Progress.
These words carry weight. Shared responsibility does not mean diffused accountability. It means that no nation, no bloc, no delegation can look away from a crisis and call it someone else's burden. The challenges that define our era are not seprated by lines drawn on a map. And collective progress is not a compromise of ambition; it is the recognition that the highest aspirations of any one nation are best realised when all nations move forward together.
Model United Nations asks something rare of us: to step outside ourselves, to wear the perspective of a nation that may not be our own, and to find language that builds bridges across the widest of divides. This exercise, demanding, sometimes intensive, always rewarding, is precisely what diplomacy looks like in practice. Every clause you negotiate, every amendment you debate, every alliance you forge across committee lines is a rehearsal for the leadership and empathy this world will need from you.
As we step into this edition of DAIMUN, I invite you to hold two truths simultaneously: the gravity of the problems we represent in our committees, and the genuine power of a room full of informed, passionate, principled young people to imagine better answers. The UN Charter was not written by those who had given up on humanity. Neither should our resolutions be.
Delegates, you are not observers of history; you are its next authors. Leave this conference not just with a resolution on paper, but with the conviction that shared responsibility is not a burden to be divided, but a strength to be multiplied. The floor is yours.
Warm Regards,
Meha Sanghvi
