“The people must know before they can act, and there is no educator to compare with the press.”
- Ida B. Wells

Dear Delegates and MUN Directors,

The air is thick with the smell of ink as the printing presses roar to life, churning out page after page of newsprint. Reporters rush about, their faces etched with determination, as they frantically scramble to gather the latest updates on the news of the world.

Amidst the chaos, there is a palpable sense of emotion that hangs heavy in the air. As the first copies of the article begin to roll off the presses, a hushed reverence falls over the room. Every word, every sentence, every paragraph, carries the weight of the world on its shoulders.

There are few things more powerful than the written word, one of them being an impactful image. The press, combining the two, has the ability to ignite a fire within us, move us to tears and inspire us to take action. The press is the heartbeat of democracy, the voice of the people, and the defender of truth. Without it, we would be left in the darkness, unable to make informed decisions, unable to hold those in power accountable, and unable to fight for the values we hold dear - The press has accounted for our past, molded our present and created our futures.

Dedicated to this spirit, the buzz of a newsroom is like no other, and the excitement of being a member of the Press Corps at the DAIMUN conference is no exception. The fast-paced nature of reporting on dynamic international issues combined with the contagious energy and enthusiasm of the conference promises a unique and exhilarating experience. The job requires reporters and editors to remain constantly on their toes, eager to capture every detail, from argumentative comments to moments of reflection. The illustrators must actively aim to inform, demystify, and most importantly, entertain, using subtly witty art as a medium of communication. Spontaneous flashes of camera announce the arrival of the Photography Team, catching you at your best (most often worst) moments, while the Videography team captures the surreal experience of students demonstrating their capacity as future world leaders over the course of the conference.

The environment of the newsroom is truly electric. It encourages collaboration, creativity and teamwork, relentless in its pursuit of a common goal: transferring new copies of the Daily MUNtra from our printers to you each morning.

Each moment of DAIMUN is more meaningful than the last, and Press is an ever-present force, just out of sight, capturing them all.

Warm Regards,
Naviya Gupta (Head of Press),
Avantika Kampani and Drishti Agarwal
